Mifune Toshiro!! I love him! My brother has a lot of his movies--I like it when he's a samurai that needs a bath and saunters around scratching himself ;D

Yes, that's which I like too! They are "Sanjuro" and "Yojinbo," aren't they?
And I adore him in "Drunken Angel"-- He was 28 years old and cute! XD

Oooh, he was like that in Rashomon and The Seven Samurai, too! I think I've seen Yojimbo, but not the others you mentioned--it seems like there are more he did for Kurosawa Akira, but I haven't seen them---my brother loves them and has them on video, though. But yeah, he was really cute (I like to think of him as that rough samurai character, flinging me over his shoulder and taking me behind some bushes, hee!). Also a really good actor.

A poor actor! I think those films have always been considered "art films" in America (mostly because they're foreign)...I don't know what they said about his acting at the time. Most people here wouldn't know who he was, except people interested in Japanese film or film in general, but he is considered a great actor here by those who do know his films. And Kurosawa as a great director, definitely.

They were entertainment movies and were blockbusters too. :) But now they are "art films" as well. It's the same for the estimation of Mifune and Kurosawa, everybody knows they are great!
